The wallpaper on the bottom is original to the house and shows you what a house heated (and cooking done) by wood burning fireplaces would have gone through- every surface covered in soot! They restored most of the coverings by working through the same agency in CA that Disney uses, and they were able to send a photo of the wallpaper and the company knew immediately what wallpaper it was (they have thousands of scanned images of these historic wallpapers). They printed the paper for them and they had it installed in the house to restore it.

The amazing story of this house is that not only is it the boyhood home of Henry Wadsworth-Longfellow (and he returned home frequently as an adult as it was a huge inspiration for his writing), but it also had been in his family for two generations before he even lived there. This portrait has hung in this spot above the fireplace since 1802!

This sounded gross, but I was intrigued, talked to the waitress about it, and gave it a gamble...this bacon, brie, and peanut butter burger was weird but actually really good!
