One house Hazel went to, she must have caught the man in the middle of cooking, because when he came to the door, he had a few sprigs of basil in his hand and he grabbed his candy bucket with the other. He bent down and jokingly told her, “you can have this basil or candy- what will it be?” To his (and our) surprise, she reached up on her tippy toes and took a spring of basil out of his hand. He gave her lots of candy, we all laughed, and as we were walking away she told us, “It’s like me! I’m Hazel Basil!” (I call her that all the time) ❤️ She had us carry the basil separately from her candy so it wouldn’t get squished. 🌿
